Artistic Collaborations Over the Centuries, Part I

In these fully illustrated talks, Joan Lipton will focus on artists whose work was affected by their close relationships, both professionally and personally with other artists. Families of artists, married couples, siblings, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons and close friends will be discussed. They range across the centuries and across varied geographic locations, and best exemplify shared creativity. In alphabetical order, and not in order of appearance, they are: Albert Barnes and His Artists; The Brueghal Family; Mary Cassatt, Edgar Degas and Japanese Printmakers; "Clara and Mr. Tiffany"; The Giacometti Brothers, The Limbourg Brothers; Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera; The Lippis, Father and Son; Michelangelo, Mentor to Painters and Sculptors; Gabriel Munter and Wassily Kandinsky; Miriam Schapiro and Judy Chicago; Norton Simon and His Artists; The Stettheimer Sisters; and The Zorach Family.

Instructor: Joan Lipton, Ph.D. is a celebrated art historian, lecturer and a dedicated scholar. She earned a Master's degree in art history from Hunter College, specializing in the Renaissance, and a Ph.D. in art history from The Graduate Center of the City of New York, with a specialization in 19th and 20th century art.
