WEST PALM BEACH — Palm Beach Atlantic University School of Music and Fine Arts will host an openingreception for the Artwork of James Mallory Willson III from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 10, 2011 in theWarren Library, located at 300 Pembroke Place in West Palm Beach. The late Palm Beach artist’s workwill be on display through Nov. 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public weekdays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays 2 – 5 p.m. Palm Beach native James Mallory Willson III (1890 – 1962) studied art at the National Academy of Design and Art Students’ League of New York as well as Academie Colarossi in Paris. His teachers included George Bridgman and Robert Henri. Knownfor his paintings and etchings, he was a resident artist in France, Spain, Italy and North Africa before returning to Palm Beach at the outbreak of World War II. Willson served as professor of drawing and painting at the Norton School of Art from its inception in 1946 until his death in 1962. The Warren Library gallery showcases exhibits of the University’s permanent collection throughoutthe year. Each spring and fall, the Department of Art hosts exhibits featuring a wide range of two and three-dimensional media created by University students. Named for the internationally-known sculptor and painter, the Tauni de Lesseps Art Exhibit in December will feature award-winning artwork bystudents in graphic design, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, crafts, ceramic pottery andsculpture. The exhibit in the spring will showcase artwork by graduating seniors and other outstanding pieces.
