Don’t let the bars fool you. Zoos offer a great opportunity for photographing exotic wildlife as well as indigenous species in natural settings. Take advantage of National Geographic’s Raymond Gehman’s 30 years of experience shooting wildlife around the world as he shows you how to peer beyond the bars, zoom in on the zoological wonders at the Palm Beach Zoo, and capture compelling images of a more primal time. This Zoo is host to over 1400 kinds of animals, including Bengal Tigers and their cubs, the Wings Over Water Bird Show, and Monkey Island. There are enticing monuments and 23 acres of lush tropical habitat to shoot as well, including a Mayan exhibit, beautiful lagoons, a colorful carousel, and an interactive water play fountain. To show you what is possible, Raymond will present a slide show of his best Zoo images that he's recently taken. He will then lead you around the Zoo so that you can zoom in for yourself, take your own photographs, and then return to the classroom for an editing and critiquing session of these images. He will share his four criteria for editing and critiquing your pictures. Come along and join Raymond as he teaches you about lens selection, composition, the use of light, and many other skills involved in photographing animated wildlife in a wild-like setting.
