WEST PALM BEACH - Michele Rigby Assad, former undercover officer in the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) Directorate of Operations, is The LeMieux Center for Public Policy speaker Thursday, March 1. She will talk about her new book, “Breaking Cover: My Secret Life in the CIA and What It Taught Me about What’s Worth Fighting For.” Register for this free event here.
Assad, a 1995 Palm Beach Atlantic University graduate, joined the CIA in 2002 and spent a decade working undercover in Iraq and other secret Middle Eastern locations. She specialized in counterterrorism and counterintelligence issues. Assad now serves as a public speaker, CIA trainer, and an international security consultant in the Middle East, Florida and Washington, D.C.
Upon retirement from active service, Assad and her husband, Joseph (also a former agent), joined a group of Americans who wished to aid persecuted Christians. Their efforts resulted in the evacuation of a group from northern Iraq that was featured on ABC’s 20/20 in December 2015. Assad and her husband live in Merritt Island, Florida.
Assad’s newly released book reveals how courage and determination enable ordinary people to do extraordinary things. She reminds her readers of the importance of faith and the criticality of hanging on, especially when tempted to fold.
Prior to her CIA involvement, Assad received her master’s degree in contemporary Arab studies from Georgetown University. During this time, she worked in the government relations department of an international relief and development organization in Washington, D.C.
Palm Beach Atlantic University is a private, independent university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees, with campuses in West Palm Beach, Orlando and online. The University is dedicated to the integration of Christian principles to prepare students for learning, leadership and service.
