Police Chief Competes in Free-Throw Fundraiser

Police Chief Araujo Competes in Free-Throw Fundraiser for Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 24, 2026) — The West Palm Beach Police Department is proud to announce Chief of Police Tony Araujo will participate in a community fundraising event benefiting the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Palm Beach County (HMHB), as part of HMHB’s 40th Anniversary celebration.

HMHB supports pregnant and postpartum women and their families by addressing the physical, emotional, economic, and social challenges associated with pregnancy and infant wellness throughout Palm Beach County.

As part of the initiative, Chief Araujo will compete in a free-throw challenge on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Lake Lytal Park. Participants will attempt to make as many free throws as possible within 60 seconds. Winners will advance through successive rounds.

Chief Araujo will represent the Police and Fire Showdown Team, competing alongside Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Matt Ritter and Palm Beach Schools Police Department Chief Sarah Mooney. The Golden Basketball Trophy, along with top fundraising honors and bragging rights, will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.

“Service to our community extends far beyond emergency response,” said Chief Araujo. “For 40 years, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies has strengthened families, supported mothers, and helped give children a healthier start in life. I am honored to stand with an organization whose mission reflects care, compassion, and commitment to this community.”

Contributions directly assist programs that provide critical resources to pregnant and postpartum families across Palm Beach County.
