DESCRIPTION:The School District of Palm Beach County Superintendent\, Michael J. Burke\, will be delivering the Annual Back-to-School Breakfast address on August 24. \n\n\n\nSuperintendent Burke will expand on the district's performance and achievements of 2020 and talk about what is to come in 2021.\n\n\n\n*At this breakfast\, we will be collecting school supplies for the Red Apple Supplies Drive organized by the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County.\n\n\n\nAbout Michael J. Burke\, Superintendent\, School District of Palm Beach County\n\nMike Burke has served the South Florida education community for more than 30 years and was named the Superintendent of the School District of Palm Beach County in July of 2021.\n\nMr. Burke joined the School District of Palm Beach County in 1998 where he has served as Budget Director\, Chief Financial Officer\, and Chief Operating Officer -- serving as both Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer from 2012 to 2016.\n\nAs Chief Financial Officer\, Mr. Burke sat on the Superintendent's Executive and Academic Cabinet and was responsible for the District's Financial Management and Information Technology divisions. Financial Management included Accounting\, Budget\, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)\, FTE & Student Reporting\, Purchasing\, Risk & Benefits Management\, Federal Programs\, and Treasury.\n\nMr. Burke is the Past Chairman of the Florida School Finance Council and has served on this Council since 2006. The Council is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education and provides input to the Commissioner of Education on various funding issues.\n\nIn 2014\, Mr. Burke received the Bill Wise Award\, presented by the Council of the Great City Schools\, during its annual conference of Chief Financial Officers. The award is presented to a Council member senior business official who exemplifies the professionalism\, commitment\, integrity\, and leadership demonstrated by Dr. Wise throughout his career.\n\nIn March 2015\, Mr. Burke received the Superintendent's Outstanding Leadership Award through the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County.\n\nPrior to his time in Palm Beach\, Mr. Burke served as a budget analyst for Broward County Public Schools for eight years.\n\nMr. Burke earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Florida State University\, as well as a Masters of Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University. He grew up in South Florida and enjoys working and living in the community with his wife and three grown children.\n\n\n\n*Photographs taken at this event may be used for publications and promotions.
