Food Packing for Haiti
Your two hands are capable of more than you think. When banded together with hundreds of other individuals, in just two hours, your two hands can make a difference through Food Packing for Haiti.
St. Mark’s together with its community partners will bring together over 500 participants of all ages to pack 75,000 meals for hungry, undernourished children in Haiti. St. Mark’s Food Packing for Haiti event will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church & School.
Providing food for hungry, undernourished children after is crucial regardless of where it is. But because this food is going to Haiti, it is meeting some of the basic needs of the most vulnerable so that Haitian leaders can focus on the difficult systemic issues which plague their country. This event is just as much about awareness and education as it is about rice and beans.
The most important ways to get involved are to help pack the food, donate and/or sponsor the event. Registration is open at www.stmarkspbg.org/foodpacking. Registration fees are as follows: adults ($25), children under 12 ($15), and team group ($250 for a table of 12). Participants are requested to register online for a two-hour shift. Twelve food packers per table assist in the process of measuring scoops of dry goods (beans, rice, soy, etc.) into bags, and then heat-sealing and boxing the prepared bags.
The registration fess only covers about one third of the cost of the bulk food materials. In addition to participating in this outreach, individual financial support and corporate sponsorship is encouraged.
Donations by check should be made payable to “St. Mark’s Episcopal Church” with a notation of “Food Packing for Haiti” on the memo line. Mail to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 3395 Burns Road, Attention: Rev. Sanford Groff, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410, or drop off at the church office in advance of the event. For more information or for charitable sponsorship opportunities, please contact the Rev. Sanford Groff, at 561-622-0956 or sgroff@stmarkspbg.org.
