Jones Foster Shareholder Joanne M. O’Connor, Featured Speaker at The Florida Bar CLE Webinar

Litigation Shareholder Joanne O’Connor was one of several distinguished speakers at The Florida Bar’s Trial Lawyer’s Section continuing legal education (CLE) webinar titled “Civil Trial Update & Board Certification Review 2021.”

Joanne, a Board Certified Business Litigation Specialist and member of The Florida Bar’s Business Litigation Certification Committee, presented “Recent Developments in Business Litigation”, and discussed a variety of topics including the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practice Act (“FDUTPA”), Business Torts and Other Statutory Claims, and New Developments in Arbitration. Attendees of this advanced course are attorneys planning to take the Civil Trial Certification Exam or the Business Litigation Certification Exam.

Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills, and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice. Only about 7% of Florida’s lawyers have earned board certification.

Joanne O’Connor focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation including contracts and business torts, partnership and corporate disputes, civil RICO, real estate and land use litigation, and lawyer and law firm defense. Joanne has experience defending actions seeking certification of nationwide and statewide classes, including consumer claims brought under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). She counsels governmental entities on statutory, constitutional and civil rights claims and both governmental and private entities on Florida’s Public Records Act and Sunshine Law. Joanne is an experienced litigator who advocates for her clients in jury and non-jury trials and appeals in state and federal courts and before private arbitration panels.

Joanne currently holds several notable leadership positions and is actively involved in the legal community. She is a current board member and past president of the Federal Bar Association Palm Beach County Chapter, a voluntary bar organization that serves as the catalyst for communication between the bar and the bench, as well as the private and public sectors. Additionally, Joanne was appointed by the United States District Court Southern District of Florida to serve on the West Palm Beach Federal Courthouse Committee and is a member of The Florida Bar’s Federal Court Practice Committee.
