PALM BEACH COUNTY FOOD BANK EXPANDS SUPPORT TO SUMMER BREAKSPOT PROGRAM ACROSS PALM BEACH COUNTY
6/8/2026
Program expected to provide nearly 5,000 free meals daily to local children this summer
(LAKE WORTH, FLA) – The Palm Beach County Food Bank (PBCFB) is once again partnering with Florida’s Summer BreakSpot program this summer to help ensure local children have access to nutritious meals while school is out.
Beginning June 1, the PBCFB will support over 35 Summer BreakSpot sites across Palm Beach County, helping provide an estimated 5,000 meals daily to approximately 2,500 children throughout the summer months. Each child will receive two free meals per day, including breakfast and lunch or lunch and a snack — doubling the number of meals the food bank distributed through the program compared to last year.
Summer BreakSpot is a statewide program that offers free meals to children and teens 18 and under during summer break when school meals are unavailable. Through the support of the PBCFB and its community partners, local families will once again have access to nutritious meals at no cost throughout the summer.
“With childhood hunger continuing to impact families across Palm Beach County, programs like Summer BreakSpot play a critical role in ensuring children continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer months,” said Jamie Kendall, CEO of the Palm Beach County Food Bank. “Thanks to the support of our partners, we are proud to help expand this program and provide even more meals to children across our community this year.”
The summer months are often one of the most difficult times of year for families experiencing food insecurity, as many children lose access to reliable school meals once classes end. The PBCFB works year-round to help address hunger across the county through food distribution programs and partnerships with local nonprofits, schools and community organizations.
With approximately 192,000 food-insecure residents throughout Palm Beach County, the Palm Beach County Food Bank (PBCFB) procures food from grocery stores, farmers, food distributors, wholesalers and other sources and distributes it to over 200 local community partners, including food pantries, soup kitchens and schools. During 2025, PBCFB distributed over 10.6 million meals to over 194,000 residents experiencing hunger. The Food Bank has been honored with several accolades, including the Chamber of the Palm Beaches Health and Human Services Organization of the Year and the Community Collaborator Award at the 8th Annual Nonprofits First Hats Off Awards.
No applications are required for children to receive meals at participating Summer BreakSpot sites. Families may obtain additional information about meal locations, site schedules and sign up for new text messaging notifications by visiting summerbreakspot.org.
